Cost to Physicians

MoleMapCD Service

There is no service or franchise cost to physicians to offer MoleMapCDs to patients. The service, which includes patient scheduling and imaging, creation of the MoleMapCD and filing the patient’s insurance claim, is covered by the cost of the MoleMapCD. The patient or the patient's insurer pays for the MoleMapCD.

Whole Body Integumentary Photography or Total Body Photography (including MoleMapCD technology) is covered by American Medical Association CPT Category I Code 96904, as of January, 2007. Code 96904 was established with the conversion of Category III codes 0044T and 0045T to Category I status to report whole body integumentary photography for the monitoring of high-risk patients with dysplastic nevus syndrome or a history of dysplastic nevi, or patients with a personal or familial history of melanoma. This code is intended to report the use of photography as a benchmark for skin cancer identification, and is meant to be used no more than once per year for retention in the patient’s record.

Suggested Viewing Equipment

The MoleMapCD can be viewed on any Windows 98SE or higher based computer. Many dermatologists utilize portable computers with CD players in the patient examining room. For best viewing a screen with 1200 x 800 pixel resolution is recommended.

Your EMR terminal can be utilized for MoleMapCD viewing if a CD player is available on your room component. Direct integration of the MoleMapCD and viewing software into your EMR may also be possible. Please have your EMR vendor contact DigitalDerm with your system specifications.
