MoleMapCD Technology is a Total Body Photography product used as a baseline system for the early detection of melanoma. Formerly known as molemapping, mole mapping or a molemap, it provides a visual record of your skin, which you use to check for changes that may indicate melanoma. At the center of this technology is a CD-ROM containing 35 high-resolution images that document a patient’s skin from head to toe. These images serve as a baseline for comparing changes. The MoleMapCD contains your images and speed optimized viewing software that runs on any personal computer with a Windows 98SE or above-based operating system.
MoleMapCD technology is designed for physician and patient use. Patients use it when doing at-home Skin Self-Examinations (SSE). In the past, patients had to rely on memory to identify changes. And if you have ever examined your skin, you know how difficult it can be to spot changes, particularly if you have a lot of moles.
Melanoma is not an obvious disease. Nor is it common. Only one in 200,000 moles turns out to be melanoma. It is very difficult to tell if a mole has changed. It’s also difficult to tell if a mole is new or has been there for months. With MoleMapCD technology, patients finally have a basis of comparison that is comprehensive, highly accurate and easy to use. It allows you to take charge of your skin health between scheduled doctor’s visits.
Developed in conjunction with the Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center, the MoleMapCD has been used by thousands of high-risk melanoma patients for more than a decade. With the MoleMapCD, you have the opportunity to alert your physician, at the earliest moment, of a potentially life-threatening condition – melanoma.
